Sting Live at Belasco Theatre Recap

Sting performed in downtown LA celebrating 20 years of the Cherrytree Music Company and we were there to catch it

Sting played the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, May 29th celebrating 20 years of the Cherrytree Music Company–independent label, management company, and music publisher, with net proceeds benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.. The event originally scheduled for January 25th was postponed due to Sting having a throat infection. Opening the show was Sophie Grey, followed by Chance Emerson, Sting’s son Joe Sumner, and frequent collaborator Shaggy. Sting closed out the night with his 3.0 drummer Chris Maas (previously of Mumford & Sons) and Ben Butler who has played with Sting previously and was filling in for long-time Sting guitarist Dominic Miller.

Sting came out during Shaggy’s set and Shaggy made a few appearances during Sting’s set. Shaggy performed hits like “Angel,” “Boombastic,” and “It Wasn’t Me.” The opening sets lasted around 30 minutes each with Sting performing an hour of Police classics and solo hits. Sting opened with “Message In A Bottle” and the hits continued with “Englishman In New York” where was joined by Shaggy. Sting continued with “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Fields of Gold,” and Shaggy joined in again for “It’s Probably Me,” and returned again after three songs for “So Lonely” mixed with Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry.” The final song was “Every Breath You Take,” where Sting was joined by all of the evening’s performers.
