Genre-bending heavy alt-rock duo Nova Twins (guitarist/vocalist Amy Love and bassist Georgia South) have announced details of their highly anticipated sophomore album. Aptly titled Supernova, the album is set for release through Marshall Records on June 17th.
Supernova is a piece of work thatโs fearlessly itself โ once again playing with genre and rich in different moods, textures, and layers, all the while retaining that purity and simplicity of the essential elements: South, Love, bass, guitars, drums, and a whole lot of energy. Ultimately, it captures the tension and release that weโve all been through lately, while imagining whatโs to come. Speaking on the album, Amy and Georgia said, โโSupernovaโ is the beginning of a new era. As we delved into the unknown, making this album became our medicine through a turbulent time. Itโs a reflection of where we were and how far we have come, encased in a fantasy world that we imagined. ‘Supernova’ is made out of dreams, triumphs and colourful nightmares. When you get to the other side, you will always come out a winner.โ
Following in the wake of the tidal wave that was โAntagonist,โ Nova Twins (this week’s Kerrang! Magazine cover stars) have released โK.M.B.,โ a devious earworm, which takes elements of hip-hop and Destinyโs Child before birthing a D12-style horror fantasy dose of rap-punk. Standing for โKill My Boyfriendโ, the band created an incredible tongue in cheek treatment for the accompanying video, which sees another co-directorial effort to stunning effect. โโโ’K.M.B.’ will stitch-up the hearts of the heartbroken, teaching the ones who broke it a lessonโ, says Nova Twins of the track. โInspired by the sound and feel of the 90โs, we wrote and filmed our version of a playful horror movie. Think Mean Girls meets Clueless meets Pulp Fiction. Somewhere between those storylines is where you will find ‘K.M.B.’โ

Nova Twins are the zeitgeist-capturing polymath pioneers that our times have been waiting for. Whether pushing the MOBO Awards to create a category for POC alt. acts, to teaming up with No Music On A Dead Planet and Oxfam to play for environmental change, working with Dr. Martens to raise money for The Black Curriculum or aiming to inspire a new wave of young, diverse talent, Amy Love and Georgia South are much more than one of the UKโs most exciting bands โ they are changemakers.
Late last year, Nova Twins released their infectious single โAntagonistโ, a monstrous track that was met with rapturous response. Named on BBC Radio 1 by Clara Amfoโ as โHottest Record In The Worldโ and added to the stationโs playlist as โFuture Artistsโ, this was the first track that Nova Twins created together after reuniting post-lockdown, and one that South describes as “the sound of both of our energies coming together”. Support continued from BBC Radio 6, Radio X (Exposure Hot One and Big One with John Kennedy) and Kerrang! Radio (Single of the Week and straight to daytime playlist). After gracing the covers of five Spotify playlists, Nova Twins were also announced as Spotify’s EQUAL artists of the month (December 2021) in the UK and Ireland. Further love was shown by Amazon Music, who included the band in their Artists To Watch list for 2022. This all followed a break-out year for the band, which saw a new record deal with Marshall Records, lauded performances at Reading & Leeds Festivals, a feature on Bring Me The Horizonโs track โ1×1โ (from their UK #1 album Post Human – Survival Horror) and a Best Video Award for โTaxiโ at the 2021 Heavy Music Awards. They have also graced the covers of NME, Alternative Press and Premier Guitar, with NME calling their 2020 debut LP โa winning testament to the blurring boundaries between hip-hop and heavy rock.โ
โโBattling through the old guard of rockโs narrow-minded expectations, their debut album โWho Are The Girls?โ planted their flag as outliers on a mission, when it dropped in 2020 to much critical acclaim. Name another act that could support Bring Me The Horizon and Wolf Alice but also Enter Shikari and Sleaford Mods? One of the UKโs premiere live performers and fiercest festival acts reach a very broad church, without diluting what theyโre all about.
Thereโs no band out there quite like Nova Twins. If more artists blazed a trail like this, weโd be celebrating a lot more difference, rather than craving whatโs safe and similar. From being โshunnedโ when they arrived on the scene, now Nova Twins are leading a game all of their own. Now, there are no rules.
Nova Twins will also head out to the US for their first headline shows, as well as a run of support dates with Grandson. Catch Nova Twins at one of the following shows:
