About Lige Grant Curry
Born in Flint, Michigan, and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Lige Grant Curry discovered his musical drive early. He began his journey as a vocalist but quickly found his true calling on the bass guitar. After graduating high school in 1975, he anchored The Electric Sparks Band as bassist and vocalist. A pivotal performance of the classic “Maggot Brain” at an after-party impressed George Clinton, sparking a lifelong musical brotherhood. Following his music studies at Central State University, Curry reunited with his cousin, Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton, and quickly secured a job on the band’s staff and crew.
In 1979, Curry officially joined the Parliament-Funkadelic fold as a studio backup singer. He utilized this time to study directly under legendary bassists Billy “Bass” Nelson and Cordell “Boogie” Mosson. When Rodney “Skeet” Curtis departed and Mosson shifted to guitar, lead singer, Garry Shider, tapped Curry for the bass role, allowing him to step firmly into the spotlight. Over his 46-year career, Curry has produced and led acclaimed projects, including The Starr Cullars Band, Ligedelic Band, and The Naked Funk Project. During his career, he has collaborated with industry icons such as George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Rick James, Bernie Worrell, and Sly Stone.
