July of 2021 found John Patitucci on tour in Italy with Chris Potter on saxophones and Brian Blade on drums. Patitucci says, “The tour in 2021 in Italy was an incredible experience with my two dear friends, who happen to be some of the greatest musicians in the history of jazz music. The tour was organized by Alex Travi, who had the idea that we should bring someone to record live at some point during the tour. All the tracks, with the exception of Without a Song, were recorded in Genova, Italy on July 22, 2021. Without a Song was recorded on July 24, 2021 in Alba, Italy.”

“The chemistry between the three of us is born out of decades of playing together in different ensembles, and also as a trio at times. The freedom, connection and our shared influences make this trio one of my favorite groups to play in, ever. The venues that we played in throughout Italy, many outdoors, were very inspiring throughout this tour.”

Grammy Award winning saxophonist Chris Potter has been one of the preeminent saxophonists in the jazz scene for over 30 years, playing and recording with jazz luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Paul Motian, John Scofield and many others. Potter also leads his own groups as a bandleader with over fifteen recordings of his own, featuring many of his own compositions.

Extraordinary drummer Brian Blade is one of the most in-demand drummers of his generation, recording and performing with everyone from jazz heroes Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea (and many more) to singers Joni Mitchell and Norah Jones. Blade has won Grammy Awards and leads his own bands, including Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band. The Fellowship Band has released five acclaimed albums.

Bassist John Patitucci is known for his versatility as a virtuoso on both the six-string electric bass and the acoustic bass. Patitucci has released seventeen recordings as a leader and has won four Grammy Awards. He has recorded and performed as a member of Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and Akoustic Band, the Wayne Shorter Quartet and with leading musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Simon and many others.

Patitucci speaks about the new album: “Visa is a classic Charlie Parker blues that the three of us love to play together. Out West is a new composition. As I was writing it, it reminded me of the wide open spaces in the western part of the United States. I have also been inuenced by the music of the group Old and New Dreams, which featured Charlie Haden, Dewey Redman, Ed Blackwell and Don Cherry. Three Pieces of Glass is a piece inspired by a book that was suggested to me by a pastor friend. The three pieces of glass in our modern society are the phone, the computer and the television. The effects of these devices, positive and negative, are being felt in real time and are of great consequence in our world.”
