Joe Hubbard Releases New Book “Intense Bass Warm-Up Guide”

Acclaimed bass educator's new book bridges practice and performance

Renowned bass guitarist and educator Joe Hubbard announces the release of his latest instructional book, “Intense Bass Warm-Up Guide.” This comprehensive guide, designed to elevate bassists’ technical proficiency and improvisational skills, will be available for download on June 25, 2024, at joehubbardbass.com.

“Intense Bass Warm-Up Guide” serves as a follow-up to Hubbard’s acclaimed “Fingers of Fury,” expanding beyond finger dexterity to focus on practical jazz improvisation concepts. The book features 24 etudes that challenge players at all levels, incorporating a wide range of techniques including modal fingerboard patterns, diminished and augmented scale patterns, 12-tone improvisational lines, and altered dominant 7th ideas.

“This guide is more than just a warm-up routine,” says Hubbard. “It’s designed to bridge the gap between practice and performance, ensuring that every exercise has direct application to real-world playing situations.”

Key features of “Intense Bass Warm-Up Guide” include:

  • 24 practice etudes with both standard notation and tablature
  • Exercises covering a wide range of advanced jazz concepts
  • Techniques for playing in odd time signatures
  • Linear chromaticism and octave displacement exercises
  • Bebop scale cycle drills and outside II-V-I substitutions

The book is priced at £24.97 (approximately $31 USD) with a special launch price of £19.97 (approximately $25 USD).
