Carl Mayotte To Release New Album ‘Fantosme’

The Quebec-based bass player is gearing up to release his debut solo album

Things are going really fast for the young musician since last summer: after receiving Grand Prix de la relève Festi Jazz-LOJIQ du Festi Jazz International de Rimouski and releasing his album Fantosme last autumn, Quebec City jazz bassist Carl Mayotte was recently named Radio Canada’s Jazz Revelation for 2020-2021.

Carl Mayotte is currently presenting Fantosme, the show coming from his album.

Co-realized by Carl Mayotte and Michel Cusson (from UZEB), Fantosme is an album with original and modern compositions. In this opus, he found his inspiration from the great artists from the 70′: Weather Report’s grove, Frank Zappa’s madness, Hermeto Pascoal’s Brazil, virtuoso Chick Corea Pat Metheny’s melodies. He wanted to pay homage to this great artist but also add a modern touch with the sounds, the arrangements and by playing with young very talented musicians.

For this first album, Carl is accompanied by young talents: Gabriel Cyr (guitar), Damien Jade Cyr (saxophones), Francis Grégoire (keyboards), Stéphane Chamberland (drums), Patrice Luneau (baryton saxophone), Rémi Cormier (trumpet), Emmanuel Richard-Bordon (trombone) et Raymonde Gagnier (voices). Some of the greatest musicians from the Quebec Jazz Scene are also here with Luc Boivin and Jean-Pierre Zanella.

About Carl Mayotte:
