(New York, NY, March 1, 2021) Today, Grammy-nominated electric bassist Jonathan Maron will release Wide Open Lazy Eye. In addition to being a founding member of NYCโs legendary Groove Collective, Maron has played with futuristic soul icons Maxwell and Meshell Ndegeocello, contributed to dancefloor anthems by Ron Trent and DJ Spinna, and joined in far-reaching electronic jazz improvisations with Dave Douglas and Donny McCaslin. Now, with Wide Open Lazy Eye, Maron brings forward his first release as a leader.
Wide Open Lazy Eye includes five new tracks, taking the listener on a journey from the soulful quirky lilt of โLazy Eye,โ to the introspective ambient funk of โI Know You.โ While bass features throughout, the focus is on storytelling, texture, and mood. This is in no small part due to the contributions of producer/mixer Riley McMahon (Spottiswoode and his Enemies), a longtime friend and collaborator.
The tracks on Wide Open Lazy Eye showcase Maronโs playing and composition, in the company of some of New Yorkโs best musicians. โThis project gave me the opportunity to bring together long time collaborators as well as musicians I admire who I might not have played with before,โ Maron explained. โOver the years Iโve been lucky to have many super-geniuses on my gigs. And as a result, Iโve written a lot of music and forged a lot of deep musical connections.โ
The EP is available for download via Bandcamp, and streaming on all digital platforms.
