Bass Bash has been the premier bass event at Winter NAMM for 17 years thanks to the hard work of a team led by Toné Compito. Now, with Compito’s blessings, Bass Magazine will pick up the torch in 2021 and debut Bass Magazine’s Bass Bash. 

“I have major respect for Jon D’Auria, Chris Jisi, the entire Bass Magazine staff, and their contributions to the bass community over so many years,” says Compito, who has run the event for the past six years. “When I finally decided to pass the Bass Bash baton on, there was only one clear choice.” 

“The Bass Bash has always been the highlight of NAMM,” says Bass Magazine editor-in-chief Jon D’Auria. “We were deeply honored and excited when Toné asked us to take over, and we’ve already had a big input into this year’s Bass Bash. Lucky for us, she’ll stay on as an advisor so there’ll be a smooth transition next year. We’re thrilled that Justin Huth and Jack Trifiro, as well as the event’s tireless volunteers, will help us keep this tradition alive.” 

“Justin, Jack, and [Aguilar’s] Dave Avenius have taught me so much, and it would have been impossible to achieve the success and growth of the Bash without their friendship and guidance,” says Compito. “It’s been a rollercoaster ride, but it’s immensely rewarding when the shows come together and you can feel the energy of the music and the audience’s excitement. It makes all the stress, hard work, and late nights worth it!” 

As always, Bass Bash will feature performances from the hottest players alongside gear booths by exhibitors and sponsors, whose time, gear, and funding have kept the Bash alive over the years. But beginning in 2021, Bass Magazine—the team that brought you the first 30 years of Bass Player, as well as the annual Bass Player Live! parties—will also organize showcases and pay homage to true bass icons.
