Watch Justin Meldal-Johnsen Perform On SNL With St. Vincent

St. Vincent made an appearance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s April 3rd episode in promotion of her upcoming seventh album, Daddy’s Home. To help her deliver her electrifying stage show, St. Vincent enlisted Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, Garbage) to serve as her bass player and musical director. JMJ stepped up to the challenge and knocked it out of the park for the performances of “The Melting of the Sun” and “Pay Your Way With Pain,” which can be seen below.

Alongside JMJ as the rhythm section were drummer Mark Guiliana (David Bowie, Meshell Ndegeocello) and keyboardist Rachel Eckroth (Rufus Wainwright, Chris Botti). The band delivered a phenomenal performance that showcased both JMJ’s skills as a musical director and also his impeccable pocket on his Fender Mustang bass and Hofner Club Bass with flatwound strings.
