April 1st, 2025 โ€“ With the latest roll out of this administrationโ€™s sweeping tariffs, it was announced today that Brazil will now be administered a 25% tariff for their talented product of bass players. Known as one of the meccas for low end virtuosos, the country has produced some of the most revered names in bass and will now subsequently face fees for their musical output.

ย โ€œWe donโ€™t know if itโ€™s something in the water over there, or if itโ€™s just the coastal lifestyle that produces such groove and feel among these musicians,โ€ stated Ron Fishborne from the Cabinet of Foreign Relations. โ€œBut weโ€™re going to take action to make sure that the playing field is leveled, and these tariffs are a result of that. When it comes to exporting musicians, theyโ€™re among the top.โ€

Brazilian bass players have been going viral on YouTube and social media for some time, as their regionally centric approach to bass finds millions of viewers in awe of their talent. While theyโ€™ve gained the respect of musicians and fans all over the world, the current administration feels that itโ€™s time for there to be an additional price for their prowess before they take over bass chairs untaxed.ย ย

โ€œWhile the age of social media and streaming services has given Brazilian bassists much more visibility in recent years, this is not a new trend,โ€ says White House advisor, Dana Globenport.ย โ€œThis outpouring of talent has gone on for too long being untaxed, and now we are taking action.โ€ย

The tariffs are expected to set in on April 31stย of this year. The government has also hinted at setting tariffs on Brazilian Rosewood and the 6-string slap technique.ย ย
