The Stray Cats returned to the Pacific Amphitheatre at the O.C. Fair for the first time since 2018 and their first L.A. area show since 2019 (Greek Theatre) for two nights (8/1& 8/2). Their 2019 tour was their first U.S. tour since 2007 and this tour is their first since 2019. The trio formed in 1983 with Brian Setzer Lee Rocker (Bass), (Guitar/Vocals), and Slim Jim Phantom (Drums) and were the band to revive rockabilly.

Along with Stray Cats are the Midnight Cowgirls which includes wife of Phantom and Eagles of Death Metal Bassist Jennie Vee and British Ska Band The English Beat. This is Midnight Cowgirls first tour and only one of their first shows together. Eagles of Death Metal opened for Stray Cats in 2019.

Stray Cats played a set of 21 songs including covers of influences like Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette, and Tiny Bradshaw. The show kicked off with “Too Hip, Gotta Go.” The stage was very simple with their neon sign behind with their name and cat logo, two trash cans, and amps. Rocker played three upright basses, Setzer played several of his signature Gretsch guitars, and Phantom played a simple drum set of bass, snare, and two cymbals.

Rocker took over lead vocals for his song “Miracle in Memphis.” The set included hits like “Bring It Back Again,” “Rockabilly Rules,” “Rock This Town,” and a two song encore of “Rumble In Brighton,” and “Built for Speed.” The tour concludes August 17th in Bridgeport, CT.
