Teymur is a virtuoso bassist, proficient in classical, upright jazz, and electric bass styles.

Mike Stern says Teymur is an โ€œunbelievable bassist and incredible musician. Heโ€™s mastered the art of walking with an amazing feel. Teymur really walks his ass off!โ€

Arturo Sandoval also praises Teymurโ€™s playing, saying that he is โ€œa virtuoso, incredible musician!โ€

Teymur Phell was born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1987 to a very musical family. His father Elmar, a composer and music teacher, and grandmother Elmira Nazirova, who was a celebrated classical pianist and sought after music instructor, both played an important role in Teymurโ€™s early musical education.

At the age of 13 Teymur began playing the bass guitar. Without formal lessons, but mainly studying music with his father and trying to figure out his way around the instrument. It soon became very clear where he was heading.

After graduating from an arts high school at 18 years old, Teymur continued his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music studying classical upright bass with maestro Michael Klinghoffer. At the same time he toured the world with Palestinian singer Amal Markus.

Since Teymurโ€™s New York arrival in 2011, he has built his reputation as a vibrant and virtuosic player. He has become a sought-after bassist, performing with artists such as Danielia Cotton, Alex Young, Leni Stern, Kevin Salem, Lafayette Harris, Oz Noy and landing major gigs with jazz greats such as Mike Stern and Arturo Sandoval.
