Sterling announces the new SUB Series StingRay Plus, bringing expanded tonal options and upgraded features to the popular SUB Series lineup. Building on the StingRay’s familiar sound and design, the StingRay Plus gives players more flexibility and a wider range of tones from a single instrument.
Sonically, the StingRay Plus went through multiple rounds of product development focused on expanding its tonal range and pushing the boundaries of the SUB Series lineup. The classic ceramic StingRay humbucker and 2-band EQ are joined by two electronic additions that give players more control over the instrument’s sound.
First, a push-push volume boost provides additional punch and output when players need to solo or step forward in the mix. This boost option gives players a quick way to add more presence without changing their overall setup.
Second, a 3-way switch adds further flexibility, allowing players to move between series, parallel, and single-coil pickup wiring. Each setting offers a distinct voice, from classic StingRay snap to a bigger, hotter sound or a leaner, more articulate tone.

“From the very beginning, we wanted to build a true workhorse bass that could punch well above its class. If you need a lot from your bass but want to keep things simple with one instrument, this bass gives you plenty of options, with the looks to match,” said Eddie Park, Sterling director. “The result is a bass that offers a lot of versatility while expanding what’s possible in the SUB Series.”

Aesthetically, the StingRay Plus also adds a matching headstock and block inlays along the neck, premium details that Sterling aimed to make more accessible within this series. The StingRay Plus is available in 4- and 5-string configurations and comes in two finishes: Seafoam Green and Vintage Sunburst.
The StingRay Plus is priced at $499.99 for the 4-string and $549.99 for the 5-string.
