Sterling by Music Man is proud to announce the release of the Mike Herrera Artist Series StingRay Bass, created in collaboration with bassist, songwriter, and founding member of the legendary punk band MxPx.

For more than three decades, Mike Herrera has been at the forefront of punk music, known for his dynamic performances, distinctive tone, and relentless DIY spirit. A longtime StingRay player, Herrera has refined his sound over years on the road—now channeling that experience into a bass designed to meet his exact specifications.

“This is the bass I’ve wanted to make for years. Thanks to Sterling by Music Man, it’s now available not just to me, but to everyone,” said Herrera. “After playing a StingRay for over two decades, I know exactly what I need from it. This Sterling bass sounds exactly like a StingRay should, with a look and color that’s instantly recognizable in a crowd.”

This StingRay strips a classic design down to its essentials. A passive bass with a single humbucker delivers punchy tone and road-tested reliability, while the control section features one volume knob and two nonfunctional “dummy” knobs—an adaptation of the minimalist wiring Herrera has used for years, without losing the classic StingRay look.

Available in the Orange Creamsicle finish—a nod to the beloved original Ernie Ball Music Man hue—the bass features a color-matched headstock and a white pearloid pickguard adorned with the iconic MxPx “Pokinatcha” graphic, a visual mascot inspired by the band’s debut album of the same name. The result is a punk rock workhorse built for players who value simplicity, style, and stage-ready performance.
