Scott Mulvahill Releases New Album ‘Survive’

The Nashville bassist explores the human condition via compelling soundscapes

Scott Mulvahill releases his second full-length album Survive to Chrysalis Records. This album finds Scott building on the solo sound of his 2018 debut Himalayas, with more orchestration, wider soundscapes, and modern programmed sounds—along with the timelessness of real instruments played by human beings. Even with a slicker production, the core is firmly centered around Scott’s songwriting, storytelling, and nimble use of his skills as a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Guest musicians include guitar phenom Madison Cunningham, innovative jazz upright bassist Adam Ben Ezra, and Nashville studio aces Will Sayles, Anthony Da Costa, and fellow songwriter/producer Zach Heckendorf. Scott words on the record:

Survive explores the yin and yang of change, of desire and contentment, of figuring out who the hell you really are with equal parts contemplation and swagger. I wrote these songs during a period of my life where every question was being asked, every belief was on the table, and I watched certain parts of me fall away and certain parts refuse to budge. I’d love to say that I’ve answered every existential question by now but that’s not how art works… enough about me though. I hope you enjoy the mix of sounds and moods, and the talents of all the people that made this music possible. I hope that by the time you reach the title track, you feel the journey and the triumph, as well as the pain and uncertainty. As the listener, you play an important part in the album; you are the radio antennae and the interpreter; your mind is the theater where all these ideas play out and take meaning, and I hope these songs mean something to you. They say change is the only constant. Are we like canyons, carved over eons? Or does everything transform in an instant, like an avalanche or a car crash? You decide.”

Survive is available now across streaming platforms, by download and on CD.
