THE MUSIC
Being at this show was like watching two wizards pay tribute to a fallen comrade by having a pair of acolytes join the ceremonies. Geddy and Alex were in prime form as they led the band through two smokin’ sets that included the entire Moving Pictures album, for the first since 2011; “The Camera Eye,” for the first time since 2015; “Time Stand Still,” with original co-vocalist Aimee Mann; “New World Man,” for the first time since 2002; and a juicy list of mostly pre-Moving Pictures classics. The sound was killer, as were the first-class visuals, which were capable of filling the 18,000-seat room with Neil’s presence.

THE BASSES
Geddy pulled his signature bass tone mostly from a turquoise green ’62 Fender Jazz Bass, though his black ’72 Jazz Bass, green non-reverse ’67 Gibson Thunderbird, ’75 Rickenbacker 4080/12 double-neck, fiesta red ’63 Jazz Bass, turquoise blue sparkle Rickenbacker “Custom 4001,” and red Geddy Lee Moog Minimoog Model D got lots of love, too.

THE VIBE
Rush kicked off their Fifty Something Tour at the Forum, the site of their final show with Neil Peart in 2015. The idea of ever seeing them again had seemed like a fantasy: Alex had sworn off touring in 2018, and Neil tragically passed away in 2020. Then came the South Park and Taylor Hawkins tribute shows in 2022, the tour announcement in October 2025, and their performance at the Juno awards in March 2026.
On this evening, the third of a sold-out, four-night run, there was an overwhelming feeling of love, joy, and respect between Geddy, Alex, and the fans; between Geddy and Alex; from Geddy and Alex to Neil; between the wizards and the acolytes; and between the acolytes and the fans. It felt emotional, magical, historic, and nostalgic all at once.
Geddy and Alex, both 72, seemed to be having a blast. Loren’s keyboard parts freed Geddy from having to use Taurus pedals, and Loren’s intro to “The Camera Eye” was beautiful and on point. Anika was having fun but was also hyper-focused, nailing Neil’s parts and not straying far from the fills every air-drummer in the audience knew by heart. Her Tama drums sounded fantastic, too — warm, well-tuned, and arena-ready. The crowd loved her.
I left the Forum with three questions: Would 73-year-old Neil, a perfectionist who never gave less than 1,000 percent, have had the energy for this tour? How is there no official “Collected Lyrics of Neil Peart” book? And am I alone in feeling so sure that there will be new music from this lineup?
