Phil Jones Bass will launch the First Annual Solo Bass Contest/Bass Expo on September 5th in Penarth, Wales. Originally from Wales, this will be a homecoming for Phil Jones and an exciting way to promote the local musical and bass community. The competition/expo will be co-sponsored by Selectron UK Ltd, a UK distribution company.
“I attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and am very proud that Yuri Goloubev, Professor of Bass at the college, has graciously offered to be one of the judges for the contest, stated Jones. We emphasize that this is a community event and opportunity for players to network with other players, brands, and industry professionals as well as avenue to compete at a high level in front of an industry audience.”
In addition to the always entertaining solo bass competition the event will feature an expo of bass related exhibitors including builders, effects and electronics, rare basses, and amps as well as special guests. Originally a concept of PJB’s Michael Albronda, the Solo Bass Contest has become a popular event at NAMM shows and as in-store events. This will be the first international competition.
The event will be held in a festive pub and community atmosphere at the Penarth Ex-Servicemen’s Club. The top three finalists will walk away with coveted prizes including PJB amps, basses, effects, and other gear. The competition is open to all ages and levels of playing experience. Contest submissions can be accessed through a portal using a QR code featured on the event poster.
