Pete Sears and Moonalice Release New Single “Let’s Get Funky” (Listen)

The band's new EP 'Full Moonalice Vol. 1,' will be released on April 20th

Moonalice are releasing the third single from their upcoming EP “Let’s Get Funky” today, which is a new version of The Chambers Brothers’ risqué 1970 hit “Funky”. Moonalice breathes new life into the song in a fun and psychedelic soul jam kinda way with funky grooving from Pete Sears and John Molo on bass and drums, a great synth solo from Jason Crosby, soulful harmonica playing by Lester Chambers, and lively backing vocals from the T-Sisters and Dylan Chambers. The EP Full Moonalice Vol. 1, will be released on April 20th.

Born in England right after WWII, Pete Sears fell in love with the blues when he came home to an upright piano sitting in the corner of his family’s emergency war housing in London. In 1965, he started to play professionally joining the band Sons of Fred as their bassist. They soon signed a record contract, and recorded at the famed Abbey Road studios. This is when Pete discovered that being in a band and life on the road was part of his DNA.

A founding member of Jefferson Starship, Sears has played keyboards and bass with some of rock n’ roll’s most famous legends, including Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Rod Stewart, Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, The Allman Brothers, T Bone Burnett and Dr. John. Today, he plays bass for Bay Area collective Moonalice.
