Indie rock legends Mike Watt and Papa M are excited to release their new exciting split 7″ collaboration. For this Split 7” Mike Watt covers “Long May You Burn” from Papa M’s 2003 EP Four, and David Pajo / Papa M covers “Fireman Hurley” from Mike Watt’s 1997 punk rock opera Contemplating The Engine Room.
This is the second 7” in the Mike Watt “one-for-one” series, where Mike invites a long-time friend to cover one of his songs, and vice-versa. The first one in the series featured Mike Watt covering Big Boys classic “We Got Soul”, and Tim Kerr (Big Boys) covering Minutemen’s “History Lesson – Part II”.
Both tracks are available now across digital and physical music platforms courtesy of American Laundromat Records’ imprint Red Parakeet Records.
Casey Burns (Sonic Youth, Spoon, Superchunk) created the artwork for the collaboration. Both “Long May You Burn” and “Fireman Hurley” were mastered by Sean Glonek at SRG studios (J Mascis, Frank Black, Grandaddy).
Lacquers were cut by Scott Hull at Masterdisk (Juliana Hatfield, Thurston Moore, Billy Corgan), while the vinyl was pressed by Gotta Groove Records in Cleveland, OH.
The “Long May You Burn” cover performed by Mike Watt was mixed and produced by Mike Watt at studio tHUNDERpANTS in San Pedro, CA. Nels Cline played guitar, while Heather Lockie played viola, Lisa Cameron played drums, and Watt played bass + spiel.
Papa M’s cover of “Fireman Hurley” was engineered and mixed by Evan Mui at Weathervane Sound in Los Angeles, CA.
