Hadrien Feraud Launches Bass Masterclass Series

The most transcribed bassist of his generation opens his practice to independent learners for the first time

Hadrien Feraud, the French bassist hailed by John McLaughlin as “the new Jaco Pastorius,” has launched his debut Masterclass – a comprehensive, philosophy-driven bass independent education program built for players who have outgrown technique tutorials and want to develop their own musical voice.

The Masterclass is the culmination of a year of production and represents the first time Feraud has structured his methods, philosophy, and musical thinking into a format accessible to independent learners worldwide.

Unlike most online music education, which focus on exercises, patterns, and replication, the Hadrien Feraud Masterclass is built around a single premise: mastery begins where technique ends. The curriculum covers musical intelligence, harmonic thinking, modal theory, improvisation, band dynamics, and the development of a personal musical identity, delivered through an intimate interview format with Grammy-winning pianist Ruslan Sirota.

“I do not teach. I only mentor a handful of people each year. But I get so many requests and questions,” Feraud said. “So, I spent a long time thinking about how to share what I know with a wider audience without losing the depth. This is the answer.”

The Masterclass is available now at hadrienferaud.com. There is a free 7 part Docu- series that prequels the Masterclass, outlining Hadrien’s musical journey and philosophy. There are also 2 sample videos for the Masterclass.

About Hadrien Feraud

Hadrien Feraud is a Paris-born bassist widely regarded as one of the most technically and musically advanced players of his generation. Self- taught, he developed his approach through obsessive listening and transcription, going on to perform and record with John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Hiromi Uehara, Marcus Miller, Billy Cobham, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, and many others. He has appeared twice on Bass Player Magazine’s “100 Greatest Bass Players of All Time” list (2017 and 2020) and in Bassiste Magazine’s French equivalent (2022). He is a sophisitcated composer with a flair for introspective music, and beyond his solo endevours, a thought after collaborator, contributing his distinctive sound to projects across a wide range of genres, including rock, pop, jazz, and world music. He is based in Los Angeles.

Facts About Hadrien

• He never attended music school. Everything in the Masterclass comes from self- directed obsession, transcription, and listening.

• Thundercat has publicly called Feraud his favorite bass player.

• Scott’s Bass Lessons called him “an alien.” John McLaughlin called him “the new Jaco.” Lee Ritenour called him “the hot bass player of record in Los Angeles.”

• Hiromi Uehara said his playing made her want to write music specifically for him and then obsession, transcription, and listening.

• Feraud’s transcriptions circulate widely among professional musicians. He is studied the way most people study the greats, not because he is a celebrity, but because his playing rewards that level of attention.

The Hadrien Feraud Masterclass

• The Masterclass was filmed in an interview format, not a lecture. It is a conversation, not a tutorial.

• The interviewer is Ruslan Sirota, a Grammy- winning pianist and Feraud’s longtime collaborator and friend.

• It covers topics most bass education lacks: how to listen, how to think in modes, how to find your voice, what separates a musician who executes from one who communicates.

• The Masterclass is a one- time purchase. No subscription. No monthly fee. Own for life, including future updates.

• The Masterclass will be updated as feedback from the community is received with all future updates free for those who purchased it.

• The community inside the course is called the Nerd Corner. That is not a joke. The stuff he teaches is for the obsessive, the geeky ones. It is not surface level.

• This Masterclass is useful for all musicians not just bass players, the principles described apply to all instruments.

• This Masterclass has a free prequel, a 7 part Docu- series about Hadrien Feraud, his philosophy and influences.

• There are 40+ videos of various lengths – each topic is separated into a dedicated chapter for convenience.

• It is for intermediate to advanced players. It does not cover basics. Musicians who are just starting out may find it hard to grasp the concepts. However, it is still useful to them for strategic understanding and aspiration. And as they own it for life they can come back as they grow.
