Form Factor Audio Unveils Next-Generation Bass Instinct Amplifiers

The series includes the Bi1000 Di Mark III and Bi500 Di Mark III

California-based amplifier and bass cabinet manufacturer Form Factor Audio, Inc. has announced the release of its latest generation of bass amplification technology โ€” the Bass Instinct Bi1000 Di Mark III and Bi500 Di Mark III.

Building on the brandโ€™s reputation for precision engineering and unmistakable tone, the new Mark III models preserve the sonic character of their predecessors while introducing key design and performance enhancements.

For more than a decade, the Bi Series has earned a devoted following among professional touring bassists and session players for its reliability, tonal precision, and unmistakable low-frequency authority. The Mark III generation continues that tradition โ€” delivering the same beloved Form Factor sound while introducing significant engineering advancements, reducing weight, and expanding international touring compatibility.

At the heart of the redesign is an entirely new power platform. Both models feature Form Factorโ€™s Dynamic Power Supply (DPS) system โ€” an innovative integration of an additional capacitor bank into the output stage. The DPS allows the amplifier to maintain full rated power across the entire frequency range of the bass guitar, ensuring clean, articulate response even at the lowest notes.

The company has also refined its limiter circuit for greater sensitivity and improved dynamic behavior, allowing players to achieve more natural compression characteristics and enhanced control under demanding live and studio conditions.

Both amplifiers are now built within lightweight aluminum enclosures, offering increased portability without compromising durability. Compact at just 2.9โ€ high, 11.8โ€ wide, and 9.1โ€ deep, the Bi1000 Di Mark III weighs 6 lbs (2.7 kg) and the Bi500 Di Mark III just 4.1 lbs (1.9 kg). The amps will retail for $1,469.00 for the 1000 and $1,059.00 for the 500.

Each model features an auto-switching universal power supply (100โ€“240 VAC, 50โ€“60 Hz), ensuring seamless operation worldwide. The Bi1000 Di Mk III also includes a proprietary 4/8-ohm selector delivering a full 1000 watts of power at either impedance, with a quiet, temperature-activated fan for efficient cooling. Alternatively, the Bi500 Di Mk III makes 500W at 4ฮฉ and 250W at 8ฮฉ.

โ€œWith the Mark III series, we set out to preserve what players love about the Bass Instinct sound while modernizing the engineering foundation,โ€ said Mike Lera, Head of Engineering and Design. โ€œThe result is an amplifier that feels familiar yet performs on an entirely new level โ€” powerful, dynamic, and built for the global stage.โ€

The Bass Instinct Bi1000 Di Mark III and Bi500 Di Mark III represent the next step in Form Factor Audioโ€™s commitment to precision, power, and performance for working bassists around the world.ย
