Jazzman Carl Mayotte unveils today his fifth album, Claude. A moving tribute to the memory of his father, whom he lost in 2024, the album explores a rich emotional spectrum where light and nostalgia intertwine.
Each composition recalls a memory shared with his father: car rides in Loretteville when he was eight years old, late-night jam sessions in the family basement, and their shared passion for Jimi Hendrix. For Carl, this album represents a form of collective mourning to be shared with the world—a way of celebrating the man his father was and the profound influence he had on his life and music.
With Claude, Carl moves away from his usual 70s-inspired style to modernize his sound and create a more contemporary musical identity, while experimenting with bold combinations that echo the music he and his father used to listen to together.
This project also allowed the bassist to collaborate with artists from diverse musical backgrounds: Fred Fortin, a pop-folk-rock icon; Pierre Rémillard, a key figure in metal; Dayron Luis San Juan, a master of Cuban music; and Pierre-Emmanuel Beaudoin, one of the most sought-after musicians in the indie scene.

He continues to perform alongside his loyal quintet: Stéphane Chamberland on drums, Damien-Jade Cyr on saxophones and keyboards, Gabriel Cyr on guitar, and Francis Grégoire on keyboards.
The group will tour extensively this spring to present Claude, with dates scheduled across Quebec, Ontario, Western Canada, and Europe.
