BITE Guitars Creates Custom Bass for Robbie Williams XXV World Tour

The bass was created matching the stage design of Robbie’s own paintings

In July 2023, Austrian custom bass builder BITE Guitars was asked to build a bass for the ongoing Robbie Williams XXV world tour, matching the stage design of Robbie’s own paintings. BITE was aiming at handing over the bass backstage to Robbie’s long-time bassist, writer and producer Jerry Meehan at their show in Zurich, Switzerland, one month down the road. Quite the challenge, knowing that otherwise it would take BITE six months to build such an elaborate bass.

BITE still managed to complete it in record time and meet the target. When BITE delivered the bass before the show, Jerry, Robbie and everyone else were highly delighted, passing it around and turning it over and over to examine the 360° hand-painted artwork.

Jerry, whose studio Wendyhouse Productions is a prominent hub in the UK music industry, has also worked with Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Rita Ora, Adele, Stevie Wonder and many others. He was so satisfied with the tone and feel of the bass that he wanted to play it on stage that very evening which meant that sound engineering and videowall film crew of a precisely attuned multi-million dollar show had to be adjusted and redirected in a last-minute effort. Jerry gave the bass a big fat kiss in front of the huge crowd and continues to play it on the tour, even to songs not initially planned.

The bass: BITE Punch 34″, BITE 1000mV passive high-output split coil pickup, alder body, hard maple neck, roasted black locust fretboard with pearl block inlays & binding, 360° hand-painted body artwork by Oscar movie scenic painter, artwork sealed under high-gloss poly clearcoat, matched headstock.
