Today, bassist and multi-instrumentalist Kusim Sulton has released the first single from upcoming album Kasim 2021 titled “More Love.” Sulton is best known for his work with Utopia, Sulton sang lead on 1980s “Set Me Free”, Utopia’s only top 40 hit in the United States. As a solo artist, Sulton hit the Canadian top 40 in 1982 with “Don’t Break My Heart”. He has toured with Blue Öyster Cult, Meat Loaf, Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Patty Smyth, and Richie Sambora, among many other artists. Sulton was the bassist and sang background vocals on the breakout Meat Loaf album “Bat Out of Hell”, and has played and sung on albums that have sold more than 85 million copies worldwide.

On his first single Sulton comments, “The track was actually the last song to be recorded for the record and was put together over the span of a few weeks in April and May 2021. Given the event’s that have transpired both here and around the world over the past year and a half, a little more love on this planet would go a long way in bringing people together. The fact that so many human issues need to be addressed urgently made the subject of the song so important.”

“After the initial demo was recorded in London with my Producer Phil Thornalley we thought about the possibility of having guest musicians on the track. Phil is a huge Todd Rundgren / Utopia fan, in fact we actually became close through my work with Todd and the band. When Phil suggested Utopia’s original Bassist John Siegler, my immediate thought was PERFECT!”

“I love John”s playing and, if it wasn’t for his decision to leave Utopia and pursue a carreer in TV and Film Scoring my musical journey would have been very different so …. it was a no-brainer asking him to contribute a Bass track. The song has a pretty deep R&B vibe and thats John’s forte’ (along with every other style you can name) and with Prairie Prince on drums, the rhythm section is Pocket City. John is using an original 1961 Jazz Bass directly into an Apollo Twin Interface. The song is in the Key of D so John is using a ‘Dropped D’ tuning on the E String for extra bottom.”

His latest album Kasim 2021 is set for release on September 17th through Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group) and features stand out tracks like “Unsung”, “Fastcar”, and a unique cover of the Nick Lowe penned “(What’s So Funny ‘bout) Peace Love And Understanding”. The first single “More Love” will be released on August 20th and features fellow Utopia/Todd Rundgren drummer Prairie Prince (The Tubes) and original Utopia bassist Jon Siegler. Kasim had this to say about the new album, “I’m extremely proud of this record on so many levels … from songwriting and musicianship to a stellar production by Phil Thornalley. This album showcases the best solo work I’ve done to date.”
