As the world continues to recover from the Coronavirus, we’re all finding ourselves in unfamiliar territory given the subsequent lockdown that is keeping us off of stages and confined to our homes. Luckily, there’s comfort in the fact that we’re all in this together, and that there are still many outlets for us musicians to keep us active and sane throughout this quarantine. We’re checking in with bass players from all over the world to see what they’re doing to stay entertained, healthy, productive, and safe during this trying time.
Bass Player: Dallon Weekes
Bands & Artists: iDKHOW, Panic! At The Disco
Home: Salt Lake City, Utah

How have you been passing time during the lockdown?
Iโve been doing a lot of dad work. Helping with school when Iโm needed, and Iโve been mixing a record via email. Which isnโt ideal, but itโs coming together!
What have you been working on in terms of your bass practice routine?
Itโs been a minute since tracking the record was completed, therefore Iโve been re-introducing myself to it all bit by bit, at least a couple hours every day. Iโve got all this time to tweak everything, so Iโve really been getting lost in itโin a good way.
What music, songs, recordings, artists, bass players have you been listening to as a source of comfort and inspiration that you can recommend?
Iโve been actively trying to stumble across new music through Spotify and another app called Radiooooo [https://radiooooo.com]. Itโs like a musical time machine. You pick a country and a decade, and it will play you a random piece of popular music from that time and place. Itโs been very inspirational and a great recourse for sparking new ideas.
What bass gear have you been playing and trying out?
Iโve been putting every bass I own on rotation for awhile now, to see what fits best with which track. Most of the time I end up on my orange Fender Precision, that I bought on Craigslist five years ago. Once upon a time it got stolen and was missing for about a week until the LAPD found the thief and recovered it.
What non-music activities books, shows, movies or workout recommendations do you have?
Workouts, I cannot recommend. I do themโI have toโbut there are few things that I hate more. On a more pleasant note, I finally started watching Community on Netflix. That, I can absolutely recommend.
What projects do you have coming up when the world gets going again?
A new iDKHOW record and hopefully some touring!
What advice can you offer fellow bassists for staying positive and keeping morale high?
Just remember that four strings is all anyone ever really needs.
