London-based singer songwriter Rebecca Hollweg has released 3 albums of original songs in 2001, 2008 and 2015.

Her singing and songwriting has received praise and 4-star reviews from the likes of Uncut, Q, The Guardian and The Sunday Times. She’s appeared on numerous BBC Radio shows, and can count Janice Long and Jamie Cullum amongst her long-term supporters.

This new album ‘Other People’s Songs’ is just that, featuring the same brilliant band as her original albums and produced once more by her husband and bass player Andy Hamill, (Laura Mvula, Natacha Atlas, Carleen Anderson, Mark Murphy, Rumer, Eska, 4 Hero).

It’s a collection of 16 tracks from classic pop to jazz which she’s always sung but never recorded before. Songs by artists from James Taylor, Carole King and Paul Simon, to Randy Crawford and Betty Carter – they have all influenced Rebecca and she loves singing their songs.

It shows the versatility of her voice and gives space to showcase the brilliant jazz session musicians she’s always worked with.

The original versions of these songs all featured session players, many of them jazz musicians, and Rebecca and her husband Andy have always made her records in this way – working with technically superb players who are highly versatile and extremely creative. It’s the thing she’s found most exciting in her career of 20 years plus.

The album took 3 years to complete. The core band of Phil Peskett piano, Tom Gordon drums, Mike Outram guitar and Andy Hamill bass, recorded 20 songs at Eastcote Studios on the hottest summer day of 2017.

Justin Woodward and Julian Ferraretto later added vibes and strings at their home studios in Berkshire and Adelaide.

Rebecca re-recorded her vocals the following year, and two of the tracks – classic Christmas songs – were released in 2019.

During the first lockdown of 2020, Andy Hamill had time to finished editing the album, and went on to mix and master it remotely with Chris Lewis, (Incognito, Ronnie Scott’s house engineer of many years).

The band, who were all originally London-based, are now living in London, Berkshire, Scotland and Adelaide Australia.

This short 5 minute film shows the day in the studio and some of Rebecca’s many gigs and media appearances. It shows the brilliant musicians at work and the great rapport you get from working together over many years.
