Teymur Phell to Release New Book “Volume 2 of Killer Walking Bass”

A vital resource to help modern bassists differentiate their styles

After the successful launch of Killer Walking Bass, Volume 1 (Oct 2017), bass virtuoso Teymur Phell and composer Jim Kalbach have released a new edition, available now on Amazon: Here

The approach of Killer Walking Bass is unique. Unlike other books on jazz bass, the authors focus on melody as a key driver in walking. The aim is to help bassists of all levels extend their vocabulary and grow as musicians.

The book builds on the author’s melodic approach to walking bass lines. In this volume, players get lines for eight tunes with much more challenging chord changes. These lines also go further than the ones in Volume 1 to include embellishments and notes for 5-string basses.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Teymur Phell is proficient in classical, upright jazz, and electric bass styles. He is best known for playing with Mike Stern, who says: “Teymur is an unbelievable bassist and incredible musician. He’s mastered the art of walking. Teymur really walks his ass off!”

Jim Kalbach has a degree in music from Rutgers University, where he studied composition with Charles Wuorinen. He is the author of three books in his field of web design and strategy: Designing Web Navigation (O’Reilly, 2007), Mapping Experiences, 2nd Ed (O’Reilly, 2020), and The Jobs To Be Done Playbook (Rosenfeld, 2020).
