BRAND X has major plans in 2019. First up, a new tour with new songs and some 15 shows from the Mid-West to the North-East (USA). Brand X is also releasing a new live DVD edited and mixed by Stephen W. Tayler (Real World Studios) and releasing a new live album as well, culled from their headlining performance at RoS-Fest 2018.

2018 has been a good year, with the band crossing boundaries:

# 2 Radio in NEW-EARS RADIO, Boston MA
#11 Progressive Charts in PROG MAG
#13 International Sales BURNING SHED
#20 Album in ALL ABOUT JAZZ

Brand X headlined the opening night of RoS-Fest this past May, and are proud to be selected to play on YES’ “CRUISE TO THE EDGE” next February 4-9, 2019.

Founding Member/Guitarist John Goodsall: “Every tour weadd some new songs and change some things around for a fresh new show. Some of these songs we haven’t played in ages – and some never before at all – and now we’re starting to work on writing some new material as well for a forthcoming album.”

“The band are playing exceptionally well live, so we’ve recorded a new live DVD and a new live album to document it.” says Manager Norman Bedford. “They’re breathing new life into some timeless music in a way I’ve rarely seen – every night on stage they do something differently, and it’s all very exciting to watch.” With founders John Goodsall(Gtr) & Percy Jones (Bass) still at the helm, they’ve reached some new peaks with Keyboardist Chris Clark, Percussionist Scott Weinberger, and Drummer Kenny Grohowski; each bringing their own unique artistry that make Brand X such a unique live act.

The original seeds were sown many years ago in London as players in a studio band for many of Brian Eno’sinfamous solo albums. Drummer Phil Collinsand Bassist Percy Jonesgot to know each other through those sessions. Later Jones and JohnGoodsallofficially formed Brand X. Bill Brufordeven played a few shows in Brand X — but was complicated by commitments with King Crimsonand his own band Bruford, so it wasn’t long before Collins was locked in behind the Brand X kit.

Brand X would sign with Genesis’ management company and they were off and running. They played several festivals dates along with Genesislike the infamous Knebworth Fest in England. With their first three albums “Unorthodox Behaviour”, “Moroccan Roll” and “Livestock” many critics hailed Brand X as a new path for the future. In a 1978 poll in England’s NME, Brand X were ranked first, above The Sex Pistolsas new band of the year. In a sense they truly were at the forefront of the Jam-Band/Fusion sound. Today the band carries with it more Funk and Rock, but the improvised Jazz sections are still pure heaven.

Phil Collins balanced playing simultaneously in Genesis and Brand X for the early years – an act he handled well – and some claim some of Collins best work appears on those Brand X albums. Collins once explained his love for the energy and freedom created by Brand X thusly: “Genesis was like my wife, but Brand X was like this hot mistress — with big bazongas!”

Brand X has been heralded in articles by The Huffington Post, Progression Magazine, English columnist Sid Smith, Music Journalist Anil Prassad, The Mid-Atlantic Music Journal, and many more for their consistently red hot and diverse shows. Aside from their world-class musicianship, you’ll find a dry English wit popping up reminiscent of Monty Python, Benny Hill and others. With song titles like: Why Should I Lend You Mine, When You’ve Broken Off Yours Already?”or “Smacks of Euphoric Hysteria”– we’ve come to learn to expect the unexpected. They deliver some of the most diverse music you’ve possibly heard in years, including fan favorites from their best known albums: “Unorthodox Behaviour”, “Moroccan Roll”, “Livestock”, “Masques”, “Do They Hurt?”,“Product” “Is There Anything About?” and now of course 2018’s “Locked & Loaded/Live!”

Brand X are often mentioned in the same circles as Weather Report,John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny Group, Jaco Pastorius etc… But have influenced modern day bands like Dream Theatreand Phish. On the recent tour, members of Metallica, The Dixie Dregs, Dream Theatre, King Crimson,Renaissance, and others came out to catch the BX in action. 2018’s new album was recorded by YES Engineer Dave Wilkersonand is mixed by legendary Producer Stephen W. Taylerat Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studiosin England. Tayler is known for his work with Gabriel, Kate Bush, Underworld, Stevie Nicks, Suzanne Vega, Rush, Bill Bruford, and Brand X to name a few. The new album is produced by Brand X’s own Scott Weinbergerand Norman Bedford.
