Dave Koz shared his moving version of The Beatles’ classic hit “Yesterday.”Award-winning singer-songwriter Matt Cusson, known for his work with Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera and Anderson .Paak, produced the track with Koz and contributes vocals. Neo-soul great Meshell Ndegeocello joins in on electric bass and Adam Hawley on electric guitar. Listen to “Yesterday” HERE

The song is from Koz’s forthcoming album, A New Day, set for release on October 9 –exactly 30 years and one day after the release of his self-titled debut album. “Yesterday” was originally released by The Beatles in September 1965 and went on to top Billboard’s Hot 100.

Koz says, “Listening to the prophetic lyrics, if you apply them within the framework of the pandemic, it literally was yesterday that our lives were completely different. To me, A New Day is an album that reflects the reality that we’re going somewhere new. But to get to that destination, you have to have your eyes wide open, while remembering where it is you came from. So, it’s important to reflect that just yesterday, it was all very different. And while we can’t necessarily go back to that innocence, the prospect of a bright tomorrow is something we all can focus on.”

Using simply a drum loop and acoustic guitar to create the mood and vibe, the production is built around Koz’s soulful alto sax and reminiscent of Babyface’s “When Can I See You.”

“To enhance that wistful feeling we were aiming for, I reached out to the brilliant Meshell Ndegeocello, who transformed the song with her completely unique bass line,” recalls Koz.

SiriusXM Watercolors host Talaya gave fans a first listen to “Yesterday” yesterday on her show as part of the “Colors Of A New Day” campaign. Tickets are available now for Koz’s virtual album release event, which will take place on Friday, October 9, at 7:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM PT, via looped. VIP experiences, including exclusive one-on-one meet & greets, are also available. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Efforts, which helps those in the music community affected by the pandemic.

A New Day is a deeply comforting yet forward-thinking 11-track collection (with one bonus track on the physical CD) that marks Koz’s 20th album overall – and first full set of original material in 10 years (since Hello Tomorrow in 2010). Conceived and recorded entirely under the umbrella of COVID-19, Koz envisions it as a “musical hug,” aiming to provide a sense of comfort to listeners during this extremely intense period. A New Day is now available for pre-order HERE. Fans who pre-order the album on iTunes will instantly receive the exclusive track “It’s All Love” featuring Chris “Big Dog” Davis.

“Entertainment Tonight” (Weekend Edition) used the official video for “Summertime in NYC” featuring Brian McKnight to close out a recent show. The video, which was shot on the streets of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island in July, celebrates the indomitable spirit of New Yorkers, showing that even in a pandemic, the city and its inhabitants are still very much alive and well.
