While most teens crave screen time, J3 seeks synchronicity on the bandstand. Proficiently grooving on virtually any instrument within any genre, Justin-Lee Schultz, Jamie-Leigh Schultz and Jaden Baker personify joy. Every now and then, special artists come along with mind-blowing abilities and an intuitive sense that is well beyond their years. J3 are those type of musicians. Their youthful exuberance is tempered with serious musicianship, deep reverence for their predecessors and an eye towards the future. 

Born in South Africa and now based in Los Angeles, 15-year old pianist Justin-Lee Schultz’s debut recording Gruv Kid (2020) landed at #1 on iTunes Jazz and featured jazz icon and mentor Bob James, among numerous others. Quincy Jones says, “This kid is something special!” while Robert Glasper says, “He sounds amazing and he’s only getting better!” J3 also features Justin’s 18 year old sister Jamie-Leigh who flows effortlessly between drums, bass, guitar and more. 16-year old Dallas based Jaden Baker slaps the bass before grabbing an axe or horn. Baker, who counts bassist Derrick Hodge as a mentor, has worked with Israel Houghton and is the Music Director for Student Ministries at T.D. Jakes’ The Potter’s House.

J3’s new album Opus 1, shines a spotlight on the trio’s far-reaching influences from Pop, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel and beyond. Due out on April 15th, the project features tributes to Chick Corea and Michael Jackson as well as numerous stunning originals. You may have seen a solo prodigy jam before but you have never heard three young geniuses telepathically connect with such soul, fire and jubilance.
