Jamaaladeen Tacuma’s There He Stood a tribute to Paul Robeson performed at the beloved Philadelphia historical landmark The Paul Robeson House.

A Fundraising event : Jamaaladeen Tacuma’s There He Stood featuring Osayunde Baruti – A Tribute to Paul Robeson A concert during Black History Month will take place in Philadelphia for live audiences and worldwide via livestream.

Jamaaladeen Tacuma, considered one of the world’s finest living bass players, is the driving force behind the Outsiders Festival, now in its 7th year. A series of events Renaissance Man Reloaded honors the legacy of bass baritone concert artist, stage and film actor, athlete, and activist Paul Robeson with two concerts of inspiring music, exploring a range between classical and jazz genres. This year’s events also celebrate the return of the festival and the reopening of The Paul Robeson House and Museum in Philadelphia in West Philadelphia after the disruption of the pandemic. This event is organized in partnership with the The West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance -The Paul Robeson House and Museum.

There He Stood at Robeson House February 2, 2022

The first event in the Outsiders Festival features a duet performance, There He Stood, by Tacuma on electric bass and electronics with vocals from the multi-talented performer, filmmaker, choreographer, and director Osayande Baruti.

The concert is takes place at the historic Paul Robeson House and Museum in West Philadelphia with a small live, invite-only audience; however an unlimited number of passes are available to access the livestream. This intimate concert allows virtual listeners to experience Jamaaladeen’s extraordinary dynamic range—from delicate accompaniment supporting Baruti’s vocals to thunderous poly-rhythmic virtuosity—taking the listener through Paul Robeson’s Song Book as never heard before.
